birkenstock sandals.

I'm the child of two hippies, so it's no surprise that I've always loved Birkenstock's. I mean I'm literally from a family of tie dye wearing, granola eating, Volkswagen van driving, hippies. It goes without saying that I've always had a pair of Birkenstock's in my closet. They've never been particularly stylish, but they're undeniably comfortable and when you're doing lots of hiking, camping, and granola eating, you need comfortable shoes.

I'm telling you, the winds of change have come and Birkenstock's are now cute. Stylish, even. I've been eyeing gladiator sandals since last Summer in NYC, and they've grown on me, to the point where I need a pair. Badly. This is where the rubber meets the road: comfortable Birkenstock's + gladiator sandals? Where do I sign up?

so, what you are saying is...
the other day when i wore my (at the very least 10 year old) purple birkenstocks (that are still in pretty good condition because hello? purple. doesn't go with everything) primarily because i was also wearing a purple shirt ... and i asked my husband if it looked ok ... and he said that it look OK, but not fashionable. what you are saying is that he was wrong and i was right?

Jen,

Of course you were right. Married men know nothing about fashion. The Birks are IN!

I inherited all of my Grandma's birks last summer after she died. I have long loved them, just couldn't afford them. She had some in every color (including silver...for dressy occasions you know). I love that style, she didn't have any of that style, if she had I would have snatched them up :)

You and I have more in common than I knew! I'm the child of at least one hippie - we took a family picture in tie dye once, we had a Volkswagen bus, square back, and bug as family cars when I was young, my first car was a Volkswagen Fastback, and I wore nothing but Birkenstocks in high school. I had these sandals in midnight, sparkly blue...

Kelsey,

How funny! We had two square backs and I miss them dearly. I'm thinking I'll have a tie dye party for the neighborhood kids this year, you have to come!

I must have the gladiators. And I'm going to have to hook you up with some of my homemade granola. :)
